It is still not getting enough fuel (or too much air). It backfires through the carb, and cannot get above idle without carrying on. The carb boot is in good shape, so it isn't pulling any air there. I did test this as well by spraying ether around the boot when running, looking for intake leaks.

2000 Kodiak 400 sputtering. Got the valves adjusted and everything put back together on my Kodiak 400. Took it up the road to test it out and made it about 1/4 mile under 80- throttle then it starts surging a little and backfiring and trying to die. Kept it about 25% throttle and as long as I'm on flat road it runs fine.

2006 Kodiak 400 starting problem. I've read some of the pinned info on here as it relates to starting issues. For my machine, I've always had battery life issues. They put the old no spark CDI back in, electric start worked. I recently replaced the CDI on my 2000 Yamaha Kodiak 400, for a no spark issue. If you have spark, then you know the ignition switch is the issue. On that bike, the ignition simply grounds the coil with the ignition off.

This was the first quad i've bought (used) and it was a workhorse/tank. The only things wrong with it were the seal for the ctv cover (normal wear and tear) and the rear drum brake wasn't all that great.

A sticking float is a somewhat common occurence, tapping on the side of the carb may spring it free, but the most common cause of a sticky float is debris stuck in the needle valve or seat. If tapping on it works, cool, if the problem comes back, I would at least take the float bowl off and take a look inside.
